Update On Trolley Stop Improvements
We’re pleased to say construction is finally underway on the railings and benches for the historic Trolley Stop at the corner of Broad St. and Rhodes Ave. This structure has a long history going back to the days when street cars routinely brought folks from Providence to Rhodes on the Pawtuxet to dine and dance. Rhodes on the Pawtuxet is an important landmark in Pawtuxet Village and, more broadly, Rhode Island.
In 2022, in advance of the celebration of Rhode Island’s 250th anniversary, the Masons, who own the property on which the trolley stop sits, invested significant time and money to upgrade the trolley stop with a new roof, new sign and a new paint job. With the addition of the historically accurate railings and benches, the trolley stop will be properly restored to its original appearance.
The railings and benches are being built by students at the Cranston Area Career and Technical Center’s Construction Technology Department under the direction of Mr. Ryan Ingerowski. Mr. Ingerowski and his students are excited about this project as it is something unique that they have never done before and it’s a historically significant project for the City of Cranston. The team expects the installation to be complete by the end of the school year.
The PVA has led the effort to restore the trolley stop to its original glory and appreciates the efforts of the Masons and the Career and Technical Center in making this happen.
