In 1973 Pawtuxet Village became a National Historic District on the National  Register of Historic Places through the recommendation of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission - one of the first historic districts in the country. A group of village residents formed to carry out recommendations of that report to protect the new historic district.

In 1975 the Pawtuxet Village Association (PVA) was incorporated and to this day the group of citizens known as PVA has continued to advocate, protect, and sponsor numerous improvements jointly with the cities of Warwick and Cranston.

Our mission is to actively foster the well being of the residents of Pawtuxet Village through preserving and improving the quality of life, its historic sites and structures, and its natural environment as well as to foster good communication with city and state government.

History of Pawtuxet Village

Pawtuxet was settled in 1638 and has a long history, with fine examples of architecture and industry spanning over three centuries. The early farming settlement grew to an important seaport by the 1700's, became a textile manufacturing center int he 1800's, and a recreational destination in the early 1900's. Now it's a residential and commercial area, with a variety of residents who embrace the past and enjoy the village of today.
